Looking back, it’s hard to believe the nuclear freeze movement was one of the most contentious political issues of the day. Even though proponents stated their insistence on a bilateral freeze in the production of nuclear arms, conservatives always saw this group as a bunch of radicals only interested in surrendering to the Soviets.
